Football season is almost upon us and there is a lot of excitement this year. The Buffalo Bills begin their training camp at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford on Friday morning. This is arguably the most anticipated training camp in history for the Bills organization.

There are many reasons this training camp will be so closely watched. One, of course is this is the first training camp where Terry and Kim Pegula are at the helm. Second, the Bills have a new head coach whom this time last year if you said Rex Ryan would be the head coach of the Buffalo Bills, I think people would more likely to believe you that Tom Brady didn't cheat (sorry I could not help myself). Third, not only is most of the coaching staff new, there are so many new players this season does feel like a whole new ball game.

Heading into training camp, here are some things I believe many will be watching closely:

  • The Quarterback Competition - Good lord I feel like a broken record but that is what everyone wil be focused on. Matt Cassel? EJ Manuel? Tyrod Taylor? Matt Simms? Brett Farve? (I had to) Who knows.

  • Running Backs - Lesean McCoy is presumably the frontrunner but who will be the back up? Fan favorite Fred Jackson would appear to still have a role with the team but as to how much is anyone's guess. Then there is also Bryce Brown, Boobie Dixon and rookie Karlos Williams. There is a lot of talent but maybe not the room even in a ground and pound offsense.

  • Wide Receivers - On the roster (as of this posting) there are 13 wide receivers. It is expected Sammy Watkins would be the #1 receiver so where does everyone else fall? There is new to the Buffalo Bills but NFL veteran Percy Harvin, as well as Buffalo Bills veterans Robert Woods, Chris Hogan and Marquis Goodwin to name a few.

  • The Offensive Line - with or without a new offensive line coach, the Buffalo Bills weakness has most often began with or included the offsensive line. It will be interesting to see who is put where and how may different combinations there will be.

Yes, I didn't include anything dealing with defense because honestly, it seems pretty solid even before they hit the field. The Buffalo Bills defense was a powerhouse last year and there is no doubt they will be again. The offensive is questionable and has been for years.

To most fans at Buffalo Bills Training Camp, it will be hard to gauge who is doing well and who isn't. Yes, the fans will see plays and they will see passes and rushes but they don't know the plays and they don't know what is on the mind of the coaches. We, no matter how some of us want to believe we are, are not experts. We can only assume what decisions will be made based on what we see and what we are allowed to see. There may be a better idea after training camp where players will end up but I still think no one will know what will be until the first snap of the season.

No matter what happens, I am excited for this season like I haven't been in a long time. Something is different this year. Maybe it really is OUR TIME. We all know we have waited long enough.
