Top Ten Ways Rex Ryan Won Over Buffalo Bills Fans

I will openly admit that I was a Rex Ryan skeptic. When the Pegulas hired him joy was not my first reaction. Since the day of his first press conference, Rex has won me over time and time again. What is surprising to me is that I resisted being a fan of his in the first place. He is my “kind of people”. He is a “Buffalo Bills Fan” kind of person. Here are some reasons why:
10.) One word: Bully. Rex said we would build one, we will. No I don’t advocate bullying, (the exact opposite in fact) but in the football sense of bully and being the team that others fear, yes, yes I do.
9.) His knowledge of Bills history.
“I actually lived in Toronto for eight years, and we used to get the Bills games. And, so, I followed the Buffalo Bills and I understand the history of the AFL, and the history of this franchise. I see Billy Shaw up here, ‘lookie lookie, here comes Cookie.’”
8.) His house. He told the realtor he wanted a house in the snowiest part of Buffalo. Why? He wanted to be one with the community and live like they live.
7.) His tattoo. He fixed it, yes fixed it to a Bills tattoo.
6.) His truck. If I had the money, I would want one too. Just like Rex it is recognizable and over the top. Love it.
5.) Instant brotherhood with the Bills greats. He immediately formed a bond with Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas. Andre Reed is on the coaching staff. Rex respects what they built and the success they had as well as their continued commitment to the team and community.
4.) He took the team to Jim Kelly’s charity golf tournament.
3.) He jumps out of a plane. Enough said.
2.) He is not Wade Phillips, Gregg Williams, Mike Mularkey, Dick Jaron, Chan Gailey or Doug Marrone. Not even close.
1.) He knows where the heart of the Buffalo Bills lie: the fans.
“I'm not going to let our fans down. I am not going to do that. I know it's been 15 years since the Bills made the playoffs. Well get ready, man, we're going. We are going. And the guarantee, hey, am I guaranteeing a Super Bowl and all that? I'll tell you what I will do; I will guarantee the pursuit of it…It's the most loyal fan base in the National Football League and we recognize that and with that being said, this fan base, the loyalty that they show that this football team deserves a loyal coach.”
Rex is a perfect fit for Buffalo. Your name alone is fitting; one of the most recognizable leaders of the pack and a force to be reckoned with. Thank you Rex. Let the new era begin!
