The Buffalo Bills announced this afternoon the team placed Offensive Line Coach Aaron Kromer on indefinite paid administrative leave. This comes after Walton County Sheriff’s Office in Florida arrested Kromer for “Battery to Cause Bodily Harm”, a misdemeanor, following an incident on Friday in Panama City Beach. Deputies said Kromer punched a child in the face and threatened to kill his family if the child reported him to police.
Russ Brandon said in his statement that the move was “in accordance with the league’s Personal Conduct Policy”. The interesting part of this policy lies in the second part of the discipline section:
Unless the available facts clearly indicate egregious circumstances, significant bodily harm or risk to third parties, or an immediate and substantial risk to the integrity and reputation of the NFL, a first offense generally will not result in discipline until there has been a disposition of the proceeding (or until the investigation is complete in the case of noncriminal misconduct).
Based on the language of the above, I would say the Buffalo Bills organization is well within its rights to get rid of Kromer. The police report supports that he at least intend to cause “significant bodily harm and or risk to a third party”. In accordance with the rules, they could fire him although a hearing will likely take place at some point. I am not a lawyer so I won’t try to interpret what comes next I am just stating that based on my reading and interpretation ability, it appears the Bills could part ways with Kromer legally.
This is the last thing the Buffalo Bills need. Clearly the offensive line needs a lot of work but they do not need to look up to a man who may or may not be in need of some serious anger management therapy. This is a distraction and the quicker the Buffalo Bills part ways with Kromer the better. If all the police said is true and the Bills want to win, the last thing they need is this loser.
