Webster's Dictionary defines controversy as:" a disagreement, typically when prolonged, public, and heated". Webster defines confusion as: "the state of being bewildered or unclear in one's mind about something". Suffice it to say, after the lastest news out of our beloved Buffalo Bills OTAs I, along with most Bills fans and even non-Bills fans, heck everyone is in a state of controversy confusion about the quarterback situation.
This is especially the case after an article that was published this morning Click Here. In the article sports writer Matthew Fairburn lists among his observations at OTAS that Manuel was beating out his fellow quarterback seasoned veteran Matt Cassel with the first team offense. He said Cassel seemed late on deep passes and forced a throw leading into an interception in triple coverage. This is in contrast to earlier outings when Rex was singing Cassel's praises (link to previous blog post) about being quick and accurate. EJ, on the other hand, Fairburn said did much better than Cassel. Fairburn said EJ Manuel also seemed more confident than Cassel when going through progressions.
Although the article made no mention of Tyrod Taylor and Matt Simms, I am sure, like every good soap opera "love triangle" or in this case football square, they are not down and out. If those two start taking first team reps then it will blow the lid on this confusion, controversy or whatever we are calling it now. One thing is for sure, I look forward to the start of the season not just because as a team the Buffalo Bills look better than they have in many years, but once and for all I would love to close the chapter on this quarterback routlette and have a man we can all confidently put our support behind. Then again, if this is like a soap opera, drama will unfold in one way shape or form let's just hope it isn't at the quarterback position. Unlike soap operas that drama needs to die and stay dead (at least until the next episode, I mean season).
