Are we forgetting about Robert Woods?

The Buffalo Bills have made a splash this offseason with the addition of Charles Clay, Jerome Felton, Percy Harvin, and most notably Lesean McCoy. By bolstering their previously lackluster offense, the Bills could finally be looking at one of the most dynamic and explosive offenses in the league. In the midst of this offense lies a former USC standout, Robert Woods. Woods' production over his first two years wasn't remarkable, but it was much more than enough to keep him out of the "bust" category. Many predicted that Woods would have a breakout year last year along with quarterback E.J Manuel. But as we know it, those statements were far from true.

However entering this year, Woods seems to be in a completely different position. Considered the most NFL ready wide receiver in his draft class, Woods could potentially be facing being a 4th receiving target behind Watkins, Harvin and Clay. This is not where most Bills fans would've imagined the highly coveted 41st pick to be after two years. Sophmore slump? Not really. We've seen Woods progress as a receiver, as he added on 25 more receptions and 2 more TDs from his rookie to second year. Woods' hands are also quite reliable as he isn't known for dropping too many balls. And let's not forget that insane catch he made last season against the Jets. So what seems to be the underlying reason for Woods not living up to his hype? Once again (and I know Bills fans are tired of hearing it) the problem arises at the quarterback position.

In Woods' two year tenure in Buffalo, he has played with 4 different quarterbacks, and out of those 4, only one of them is returning to Buffalo this year. With the quarterback competition still up for grabs in Buffalo, Woods has a solid chance of having yet another new face throw him the ball. This has red flags all over it when it comes to the development of a young wide receiver. Should Marrone never have pulled Manuel? This is a whole other debate but in terms of developing a wide receiver ; no, he shouldn't have. With all the changes at quarterback along with new additions to the offense, it's really easy to forget about Woods. Does this mean I should burn my Robert Woods jersey? One thousand times NO. A break out year is unlikely but Woods is still a potential star with boom potential if given some time and a steady situation at quarterback. Don't put him in the bust category just yet.
