Buffalo Bills Kicker Pushes Back on Being Pushed Back

Dan Carpenter’s name floated around many sports articles and talk shows this week. It was about the new rule the NFL owners approved moving the extra point kick to the 15-yard line. The two-point conversions will remain at the 2-yard line.
Carpenter’s reaction wasn’t one would initially expect. Carpenter told SiriusXM NFL Radio Tuesday he feels bad for his lineman. He called being on field goal protection probably the worst job in football. Carpenter added "For a sport that was trying to cut back on collisions, I think that you're probably just going to add a few more on those situations."
Other kickers around the league did voice concerns. Concerns varied from what Carpenter said to basically being insulted because the league said moving back the kick is trying to add skill to the kick which insinuates they didn’t have it it the first place. Others said it places more reliability on the kickers.
Honestly, I don’t think it makes much of a difference for the kickers as far as accuracy but it could very well lead to more injuries. That is the risk though with football as a whole. Whether you kick it from 15 yards out, run the ball, pass the ball, kick the ball, deflate the ball, (Oops that was a slip) or tackle you risk injury. I do commend Dan Carpenter for looking out for his teammates (remember Jesus was a Carpenter). Being aware of the risks and making others cognizant of them could protect them in the long run.

My sisters and I (I’m on Scott’s left) with Scott Norwood before Bills game in 2011.
NFL kickers are the “seal the deal” guys. Unfortunately, when they don’t do this something is brought up almost every time there is a wide-right kick: Scott Norwood. Let us not forget this man was “money” so many others times but this is the kick heard around the world because many say it cost the Bills the Super Bowl. In my humble then teenage opinion, the team should have played better so the game wasn’t put all on Norwood’s shoulders. One of these days my wish is that he gets redemption somehow and all of the networks and sports broadcasters stop bringing it up EVERY CHANCE THEY GET. Put the salt away, our wounds are about to be healed.
