The first two days of the NFL draft are now in the books. There have been some great picks and some surprises. For example, Jameis Winston went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Marcus Mariota went to the Tennessee Titans and the St. Louis Rams went ahead and picked Todd Gurley early than he was projected.
With that being said, let's bring our draft focus on over to the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo's first pick was 50th in the draft, 2nd round. Jim Kelly came out to announce the pick, gave a moving speech and received a standing ovation, very moving.
Kelly was happy to announce that the Buffalo Bills had selected cornerback Ronald Darby out of Florida State University. Darby is 5 foot 11, weighing in at 193 pounds and had a 40 yard dash time of 4.38. Darby started 23 out of the 41 games that he played in. He had 79 total tackles, 18 pass break ups, 2 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles. Darby has great footwork, is able to turn his hips and transition into coverage very well. He just needs to work on being a more consistent tackler and to be more aggressive in run support. Honestly with the type of defense that Rex Ryan plans to run, Darby will learn to adapt and someday become the team's #2 defensive back.
Also in last night's draft, the Bills added some extra support on the offensive line. With guys like Cordy Glenn and Richie Incognito, some people would ask why they drafted an offensive lineman. Despite all of the talent, games are won and lost at the line and it never hurts to have extra help.
So with their second pick in the draft, Buffalo selected offensive guard John Miller. Miller was a 4 year starter at Louisville and started 46 out of the 48 games he played in. He is 6 foot 2 weighing in at 303 pounds with a 40 yard dash time of 5.33. Although he is slightly shorter than some offensive linemen, Miller is what Doug Whaley called "an aggressive mauler." He is a great run blocker, good with pulling. He's also not afraid to finish a block and put his defender on their back.
These two draft picks are two that should fit very well with Rex Ryan and Greg Roman's systems. Look for these guys to make a big impact for the Bills in the next few years.
